Historien om hunden Kashtanka (The story about the dog Kashtanka)

One evening, the dog Kashtanka becomes separated from her poor owners. Unable to find her way home, she is eventually taken in by an animal trainer and clown who works at a circus. Her new owner cares for her kindly, and she forms a close bond with the other animals he keeps. Yet every night she dreams of her old owners and longs for them.

One day, she suddenly spots her former owners in the audience at the circus. The joy of recognition is overwhelming — and Kashtanka suddenly finds herself in a difficult dilemma. Should she run off with the boy she has missed so dearly, or should she stay with her new owner and the friends who have treated her so well?

The play is inspired by the novella "Kashtanka", written by the Russian playwright Anton Chekov. Behind the play is a Norwegian-Russian artistic team. The play is alos a part of Samovarteateret's «YOUNG-initiative» -  with young actors both on and off stage. The performance had its premiere in Kirkenes in August 2021.
